Myrtle Sims, age 92, of Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 from Hermitage Health Care Center following an extended illness. Myrtle was born in Carter County, a daughter of the late Dan and Dottie Ward Merritt. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bate Sims; her daughter, Frances Sims in 1983; and her sister, Ruth Oxendine.
Mrs. Sims was a homemaker and was a member of Hampton Church of God. She liked to play bingo and growing tomatoes and flowers.
Survivors include two sons, Joe Sims and wife Anna, Jonesborough, and Teddy Sims and wife Bonnie, Elizabethton; two brothers, Reverend Bobby Merritt and Reverend Billy Merritt, both of Elizabethton; six grandchildren, Alice Wilson, Gina Birchfield, Amy Jones, April Wilson, Jody Sims and Logan Smith; fourteen great grandchildren; give great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a special friend, Virginia Wakeford.
A service to honor the life of Mrs. Myrtle Sims will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 28, 2015 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. Tony Birchfield and Rev. Bill Greer, officiating. Music will be under the direction of Angie Searls and Brenda Deloach. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Saturday; or at the residence at anytime.
The graveside service will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Ornel Burker, Daniel Birchfield, Michael Sims, Dustin Sims, Anthony Wilson, Logan Smith, Harold Presnell, Mac Presnell, Ronnie Merritt and Donnie Merritt.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Hermitage Health Care Center for all the love and care extended to Mrs. Sims during her illness.
