Pauline Ruth Seaton Frazier of Elizabethton, TN, died peacefully on Tuesday, July 29, 2020, at The Waters of Johnson City Nursing Home from congestive heart failure at 101 years and 2 months. In hospice care prior to her death, the staff at The Waters and Avalon Hospice care workers celebrated her final birthday in style during the COVID-19 pandemic while the family members gathered outside the glass door.

Born May 29, 1919, Pauline graduated from St. Bernard Catholic High School in Nashville, TN. She married Charles “Charlie” Frazier on May 30,1941, and had a very successful career as a sales representative and manager for Avon and Cort Cosmetics. She continued to wear jewelry and put on makeup everyday until she died. Following the death of her only child, Betty Jo, and husband Robert Hale, she adopted her grandson, Robert, continuing her career until she took on the job as his “taxi driver,” going to most, if not all, of his piano and organ lessons, just as she had done with his mother, Betty Jo.

Pauline was an active member of the local AARP chapter and a piano player for various churches and the Elizabethton Senior Citizens Center for many years. She was on the decorating committee for the Center and was the DJ for many of the celebrations and dances. Her job, as she saw it, was to make people happy. She was also a long time member of the First Baptist Church choir and continued to play music and sing for the residents at Pine Oaks Assisted Living, Appalachian Christian Village, and The Waters, where she was a resident herself.

Pauline leaves her daughter-in-law Laura Lynne Hull Frazier of Winston Salem, NC; great-grandchild Ian (Alexa) Frazier (USMC) and great-great-grandchildren Walker and Wilder of Walker, CA; and great-grandchildren Collin Frazier of Wilmington, NC, and Erika Frazier of Winston-Salem, NC.

She is also survived by her nephew Larry Clark (Barbara) of Knoxville, TN, and great- nephew Craig Clark (April) of Greer, SC; nephew Russell “Rusty” Treadway (Janet) of Sevierville, TN, and great-niece Anna Treadway Mathis (Josh) of Chattanooga, TN, and great-nephew Wes Treadway (Breanne) and great-grand nephew Quincy Gregg of Marion, NC; niece Shirley McDaniel Pennebaker (Jim) of LaGrange, GA, and great- nephew Thomas Cyphers (Sarah) and great-great-grandnieces Charlotte Monroe and Caroline Elizabeth Cyphers of Atlanta, GA; great-nephew Reinhardt Cyphers (Natalie) and great-grandnieces Evans Amelia and Hollis Ann Cyphers of Atlanta, GA; and great- niece Kathryn “Katie” Whittelsey (William) of Atlanta, GA.

Pauline was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Thomas Frazier in 1997; daughter and son-in-law, Betty Jo and Robert Hale in 1969; grandson, Robert Edward Frazier (adopted at parents’ death) in 2018; sisters Pearl Elizabeth McDaniel, Stella Ovena Seaton Clark, and Flora Mae Treadway; brother Bill Moore (Billy); (niece Linda Caye Ruggles (Dale); and her parents, Henry Moses Seaton and Lida Kate Cogdell of Greeneville, TN.
