Peggy Sue Carriger-Emmert, age 89, of Elizabethton, TN passed away Friday, October 09, 2020 at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Levi Ellis Carriger and Ida McKinley “Kennie” Colbaugh Carriger. Peggy was the director of Human Services for Elizabethton Electric System and retired after 42 ½ years. She was a member at First Christian Church of Elizabethton. She loved spending time with her family, loved to laugh and be around all of her friends.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Curt Emmert; brother, Pete Carriger and wife Frances; sister, Hilda H. Carriger and brother-in-law, Ralph “Doc” Emmert and wife Frances. Those left to cherish her memories are her niece, Marcheta Laine (Liston); Great-Niece, Audra R. Laine all of Virginia. Cousins: Peggy Jo Carriger, Louise Street, Ted Colbough (Carolyn), and Paula Manning all of Elizabethton and Becky Snapp of Johnson City. Nieces: Tammy Miller (Mike) and Greer Murphy (Bob) of Johnson City. Nephews, Denny “Gov” Emmert and (Pam), Donnie Woods, Steve Woods (Unetta), all of Elizabethton. Benny Frank Emmert, of Johnson City. Several other cousins also survive.

Caring and loving friends; Mary Gouge, Gene Yelton, Charles Hinkle, Becky Snapp, Anita Patterson, Carmela Tibbetts, Cathy Anderson, Elaine Wesselman, Nancy Smith, and Teresa Carver. Loving neighbors: Jeffrey Williams and wife Sheila. Longtime friends: Betty Berry, Carolyn Gouge, Frank Curde, Brent Dugger, Jill Orton, members of First Christian Church and many close friends.

A graveside Celebration of Life Service to honor the life of Peggy Sue Carriger-Emmert will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, October 12, 2020 at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Mr. Michael Klaus, Minister officiating. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Friends may call at Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home on Sunday, October 11, 2020 between the hours of 10:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. to sign the guest register book. Those who will be attending the graveside service on Monday are asked to meet at the cemetery at 1:50 P.M.

Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, and Disabled American Veterans at 3725 Alexandria Pike Cold Spring, KY 41076.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Carter County and Washington County are mandating that all citizens who live in or visit the counties wear masks in public. In keeping in accordance with this mandate, all visitors to the funeral home and/or the graveside are required to wear a mask or facial covering and observe social distancing recommendations.
