Mrs. Rhoda Frances Townsend Reeme, age 91, of the Powder Branch Community of Carter County went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 from the Johnson City Medical Center following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Ernest Robert and Josie Irene Campbell Townsend. Mrs. Reeme worked at the Bemberg Corporation and then at Tri-State Containers for seventeen years. She next to the oldest living member of Oak Grove Christian Church where she taught the Ladies Sunday School Class for a number of years. She served as Sunday School Superintendent and directed the Sunday morning Youth Program for several years. She was also a member of the Sycamore Chapter of the Eastern Star.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the father of her children, Henry F. Lyons and by her husband, William L. “Mr. Bill” Reeme; three children, Sandra K. Lyons Adams, Charles Robert Lyons and Judith “Judy” Lyons Dale; two brothers, Richard Dale Townsend and Ernest Junior Townsend and a sister, Ora Love Deadrick. Survivors include a son, Richard Stephen Lyons and wife Sarah, Washington, D.C.; a brother, Billy T. Townsend and wife Reba, Elizabethton, TN and four sisters, Mary Mosley, Virginia Hughes and Linda Killen, all of Johnson City, TN and Carolyn Shelley, Maryville, TN. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to honor the life of Mrs. Rhoda Frances Townsend Reeme will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Friday, December 26, 2014 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Dr. Robert Shannon, minister officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 – 2:00 P.M. on Friday prior to the service. Graveside service and interment will follow the funeral service in Happy Valley Memorial Park, the Garden of the Last Supper. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
