Richard H. (Rick) Barnes,66, businessman and co-owner of Greeneville’s Legacy Fine Jewelers, cashed in his chips on Tuesday, March 7, after battling a series of breathing related illnesses. Rick was born in Lafayette, Indiana, where he lived until 1971, when he and his family moved to Bowling Green, KY. Rick was a 1974 graduate of Bowling Green High School and 1979 graduate of Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green. He has loved being a resident of Greeneville, TN, since 1995. Although his degrees were in Philosophy and Psychology, shortly after graduation from college, Rick joined the jewelry business where he met Faye, his wife of 38 years, who survives. Rick joined the jewelry business as a management trainee and worked in sales and management until attending jewelry technology school in Paris, TX. Rick was proprietor of K.O.D. Services, a jewelry trade shop, from 1995 until 2008, when he and Faye opened Legacy Fine Jewelers in Greeneville. Rick loved the associates with whom he worked at Legacy, and the many customers who became good friends over the years. Being a fan of baseball, Rick liked to support the local baseball teams and was an avid poker player, being an early member of the Tennessee Poker League, and cashing in at least one World Series of Poker circuit event. Rick attended First Christian Church in Greeneville. Rick was the son of the late Dick and Terry Barnes. He is survived by his wife, Faye Barnes, of Greeneville, a brother, Mike Barnes and wife, Edna, niece, Katie Barnes, and nephew, Jonathan Barnes, Owensboro KY. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Gail Aurelio, of Johnson City, TN; a sister, Kimber Barnes, of Port St. Lucie, FL; and brother Ron, of Bowling Green, KY and everyone else who isn’t dead yet. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation for the care of the associates from Smoky Mountain Hospice and that of their neighbors and friends. A memorial celebration will be held at Jeffers Funeral Home in Afton, TN on Friday, March 10, 2023. Visitation time is 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. and the service will follow at 7:00 pm. Interment will be at a later date.
