Robin Clay Sommers, age 49, passed away unexpectedly at his home on January 4, 2014.
He was born on July 13, 1964, in Elizabethton, Tn. Robin is a native of the Central Community of Elizabethton, Tennessee. He has resided the last 16 years in Fayette County, Georgia.
He was a 1982 graduate of Gateway Christian School, Bristol, Tn., and Clearwater Christian College, Clearwater, Florida, where he was on the soccer team. He worked for over 30 years in the food brother industry. He was lovingly known as the “Candyman” because of his desire to share his cookies and candy with everyone.
He was a devout Christian and loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was a member of Fayetteville First Baptist Church.
In recent years he volunteered with the athletic and band booster programs in the local high schools. He tirelessly worked with the Peachtree City Warrior Lacrosse Team and founded the Southside United Lacrosse Team, an all-acceptance team for young women.
He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh and give back to the community. Robin’s most cherished accomplishment with his children, Jordan and Breanna.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Clay and Georgia Buckles, John and Mary Sommers, John and Georgia Kyte, all of Elizabethton, and Haskell and Mary Ruth Pierce, of Butler, TN. Also prcededed in death by his Father-in-Law, Jack Kyte; and uncles, Sonny Buckles and Gary Whitson.
He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Jacqueline Kristie Kyte Sommers, Fayetteville, Ga.; two children, Jordan Clay-Pierce Sommers, of the home, and Breanna Robin Sommers, Rhodes College, Memphis; His parents, John E. and Goldia Buckles Sommers, of Johnson City; a brother, John C. Sommers, Johnson City; mother-in-law, Judy Pierce Kyte; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Wayne and Jennifer Ellis, Gary Montgomery & Bob Buck, all of Elizabethton. Survived by uncles, Richard Pierce, Douglas Pierce; aunts, Jenanette Buck, Sherry Montgomery, Elizabeth Whitson and Marcy Buckles; Nephews, Kevin and Clayton Sommers, Jack and Wyatt Ellis; and niece, Victoria Sommers. Several cousins also survive.
There will be a celebration of life for Robin Sommers on Friday, January 10, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Pastor Gary Montgomery officiating.
Memorial Funeral Chapel is assisting the Sommers family.
