Sarah  “Jean” Blair Mowder, 82, of Elizabethton, TN  gave up her courageous fight and went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 12, 2017 following a lengthy illness.  She had been a resident of Pine Ridge Care Center for the past several  months.

Jean was the daughter of the late Oscar “Ott” ” Sled Man” Blair and Myrtle Stansbury Blair.  She was born and raised in the Heaton Community of Avery Co., NC., then moved to Canon, Ohio.

She dedicated her life to taking care of others.  She was a Nurse for 23 years in Phoenix, AZ.  She moved to Elizabethton, TN in 1996 where she went on to care for individuals with special needs until  she retired in 2004 to spend time with her family and grandson.  She was a devoted Mother and Grandmother.

She loved to travel; having visited many places including Hawaii and Mexico and many other cities and states.  She has also lived in Alaska and Michigan.  She had a passion for life and lived a very full life.  She was an extreme fan of Elvis Presley,  Country & Western music, and she loved to dance.

Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her beloved son Robert “Bobby” Anthony Mowder of Elizabethton, TN and a granddaughter.  Brothers include Junior Blair of Heaton, NC; Billy Ray Blair of Roan Mountain, TN; Lloyd Blair of Heaton, NC; Hazen Blair of Banner Elk, NC; and Ernest Blair of Elizabethton, TN.  Sisters include Susie Blair of Banner Elk NC;  Lily Mae Blair of Banner Elk, NC; and Carlene Blair Hicks of Charlotte, NC.  Her special Little Buddy Jerry Corell of Johnson City, TN and Special Friend Samuel Cannon of Banner Elk, NC.

She is survived by her daughter Paula Mowder-Greene of Elizabethton, TN and grandson Timothy “PeeWee” Greene, Jr.;  special friend Timothy Greene, Sr. Of Elizabethton, TN; one sister Doyle Blair Ward of Elk Park, NC; Susan of Phoenix AZ and Patricia Baron of Washington State.  She has several other grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews.

Her family would like to give a special thanks to the Nurses and CNA’s that cared for her;  the dietary department, and all others involved in her life at Pine Ridge; everyone at Amedisys Hospice;  her niece Lisa Blair Poole;  and friends Angela and Sarah Presnell.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, please donate to Chron’s Research, Autism Awareness and Alzheimer’s/Dementia Research.   Flowers can be sent to her daughter, Paula Mowder-Greene for placement at the graveside service.

She will be laid to rest at Happy Valley Memorial Park.   A graveside service will be conducted Sunday, October 29, 2017 at 3:00 p.m., with Pastor Doug Hinshaw, officiating, and music  by Lisa Blair Poole and Timothy Greene, Jr.
