CMSGT Stephen Joseph Barnaby, USAF (Retired), age 63, of Elizabethton, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 18, 2014, at his residence.
Mr. Barnaby was born in Nashua, New Hampshire, to the late Chester Arthur Barnaby Jr. and Lucille Teresa Jeffery Barnaby. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Samantha Josephine Barnaby, on November 14, 2013.
Mr. Barnaby retired from the United States Air Force after 28½ years of service and was currently employed with the United States Postal Service in Johnson City. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church and was a member of Knights of Columbus and of the VFW. Mr. Barnaby served proudly in the Vietnam War, Falkland Islands War and the Gulf War.
He enjoyed being with his family and was a very patient husband and person.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Cathy Stone Barnaby, of the home; three sons, William Charles Barnaby and wife, Lisa, California, Randy Joshua Barnaby and wife Melissa, Texas, and Stephen Joseph Barnaby II and wife, Erica De La Garza, Texas; a daughter, Kimberly Anne Barnaby, California; eight grandchildren, Collin, Jordan, Erin, Joshua, Levi, Ryah, Cecilia and Abigail Barnaby; one brother, James Barnaby and wife, Diana, Leoninster, Massachusetts; and his friend, Ken Perry, Johnson City.
A funeral Mass for Mr. Barnaby will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 23, 2014, in the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church with Father Dennis Kress, officiating.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM-7:00 PM on Thursday, May 22, 2014, at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton, with a prayer service to follow; or you may call at the residence at anytime.
The graveside will follow the mass service on Friday, May 23, 2014, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Full military honors will be accorded by the honor guard at Shaw Air Force Base. Honorary pallbearers will be fellow employees of the United States Postal Service.
