Thelma Taylor, age 89, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 in the Pine Ridge Care & Rehab Center, following an extended illness. Mrs. Taylor was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Eston and Maxine Carrier Collins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harley Taylor; and her brothers, Jerry, Gary and Don Collins.

Mrs. Taylor retired from North American Rayon Corporation, after 43 ½ years. She was a member of New Liberty Free Will Baptist Church and her mission in life was to feed people.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Dremma and Keith Garland, Elizabethton; two sisters, Lyndal Lowe and Phyllis Davis, both of Elizabethton; one brother, Mack Collins and wife June, Elizabethton; an aunt, Norma Carrier, Kingsport; two sisters-in-law, Darlene Collins, Johnson City and Omega Collins, Elizabethton; a special friend, Ryan Peters, Elizabethton; and her special caregivers, Betty Carden, Charice Richardson, Debbie Cole and the entire staff of Pine Ridge Care & Rehab Center. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Thelma Taylor will be conducted at 1:30 PM on Saturday, June 21, 2014 in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. Mark Fowler, Rev. Ray Colbaugh, and Dr. James Richardson, officiating. Music will be under the direction of Donna Davis. The family will receive friends from NOON – 1:30 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Saturday; or at the home of her daughter, at anytime.

The graveside service will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Gordon Lewis, Tommy Vaughn, Sr., Kenneth Grindstaff, Bob Rainbolt, Byron Garland, Rick Collins, and Donnie Richardson. Honorary pallbearers will be Brian Smith, James Garland, Abraham Garland, Greg Garland, Jimmy Blackburn, J.N. Peters, Jerry Vines, Ronnie Fox, Wayne Dean, Gary Cole, Eddie Shoun, Kevin Collins, Terry Collins, Eric Davis, Jack Collins, Raymond Perry, Wayne Davis, Jim Thomas, Rich Dunnigan, and Tim Clemons.

Friends are asked to bring 1 rose in memory of Mrs. Taylor, to be placed in a vase at her service.
