     U.G. Buckles, 89, Elizabethton, passed away Thursday, July 19, 2018 in the Signature Health Care.  A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Grant Buckles and Eliza Williams Pierce Buckles.  He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.  Mr. Buckles was a retired Welder; he also loved to farm and work in his garden.  He was a member and former deacon of Blue Springs Christian Church.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter: Shelia Buckles Wilson and several half-brothers & sisters.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years: Pauline Weaver Buckles.  A daughter& son-in-law: Sharon & Terry Oliver, Elizabethton.  Three Grandchildren: Melanie Reid & husband Everett, Regina Oliver and Jason Wilson & wife Lacey.  Two Great Grandchildren: Sophie & Abby.  Several nieces, nephews & great nieces & nephews.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Sunday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. Richard Thomason, Minister and Rev. Jerry Stout officiating.  Graveside Service and Interment will be at 11 a.m. Monday, July 23, 2018 in Happy Valley Memorial Park.  Music will be provided by Jill Kemp, Kathy Thomason & Mark Church.  Active Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Monday will be: Dustin Buckles, Gerald Buckles, Willard Lovelace, Everett Reid, Jason Wilson, Dudley Wilson, Carl Buckles and Steve Pierce.  Honorary Pallbearers will be: his church family and friends.  The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to Dr. Jeffrey Schoondyke & Karing Hearts Staff, Dr. Michelle Davenport, the Staff of Amedisys and all nurses for their excellent care & support, also to Willard Lovelace, Gerald Buckles and Ruthie Mitchell for their support.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in memory of Mr. Buckles to the Building Fund, Blue Springs Christian Church % Mary Queen 945 Blue Springs Road, Elizabethton, Tenn. 37643. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.  Friends may also visit with the family at his residence, 850 Blue Springs Road, Elizabethton, TN.  Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Monday to go to the cemetery.  Condolences may be sent to the family at our web-site www.memorialfcelizabethton.com.
