James Ronald “Jim” Tuelle, 76, Elizabethton went home to be with the Lord Saturday, October 12, 2013 in the Community Living Center, James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. A native of Marion, Virginia, he was a son of the late James Tuelle and Kathleen Blevins Tuelle Taylor. Jim had lived in Elizabethton since 1974. He retired from the United States Air Force Military Police. Following his Military retirement he was employed by the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center and was Chief of Police for 25 years. He loved spending time with his family, fishing and was an avid golfer. Jim was a member of Oak Street Baptist Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister: Hazel Tuelle Combs and a nephew Chris Welch. Survivors include his wife of 34 years: Margaret “Marti” Slemp Tuelle. One Son & daughter-in-law: Brandon & Valerie Tuelle, Knoxville, Tenn.. One daughter: Linda Tuelle Willoughby, Kingston Springs, Tennessee . Six Grandchildren: Shyanne Tuelle, Hampton, Dylan & Kendra Tuelle, Knoxville, Brian Willoughby and his wife Christina, Kingston Springs, Tenn. Cory Willoughby and wife Amanda, Holiday Island, Ar.. and Angela Clark and husband Buster, White Bluff, Tenn. One Great Granddaughter: Sophia Grace Willoughby. One Brother & Sister-in-Law: Willis R. and Nancy Tuelle, Beverly Hills, Florida. Two Sisters : Jeane Tuelle Addis and husband Terry, Earleville, Maryland, and Carolyn Tuelle Welch and husband Jim, Hudson, Florida. Several Nieces & Nephews. His special brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Hasford & Jean Slemp, John & Betty Slemp, Jimmy & Ann Slemp, Jerry & Janice Slemp, Johnnie Trivett and Jane.

A Service to Celebrate the life of Jim Tuelle will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Bruce Hendrich officiating. Graveside Service and Interment will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 15, 2013 in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Music will be provided by Bill Fancher. Active Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 9:20 a.m. Tuesday will be: Gregory Slemp, Scott Slemp, Scott Elrod, Mark Mallasch, Neil Greenwell and Stan Rawles. Honorary Pallbearers will be: The Welcome Class, Oak Street Baptist Church and his extended church family, Bill Sluder, Truman Clark, John Shanks, Hasford Slemp, John Slemp, Jimmy Slemp and Jerry Slemp. The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Connie Holladay and the employees of the Community Living Center of the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center for the loving care and kindness that he received. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. It was Jim’s request that memorials be made to the “We Love Our Church”, Oak Street Baptist Church, 804 Oak Street, Elizabethton, Tenn. 37643 in lieu of flowers. Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion & Tennessee National Guard. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 9:20 a.m. Tuesday to go to the cemetery.
