Jerry Wayne Hinkle, 67, Elizabethton passed away Sunday, December 22, 2013 at his residence surrounded by his family following a brief illness. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Taylor “Ted” & Carolyn Grindstaff Hinkle. He was a graduate of Happy Valley High School having graduated in 1964. He served in the United States Marine Corps including a tour in Vietnam Era. He served in the Tennessee National Guard for 20 years. Jerry was a graduate of East Tennessee State University with a Master’s Degree in Biology. He had been employed by the Carter County Board of Education for 30 years having served as a teacher, and Principal at Happy Valley High School and Happy Valley Middle School. Jerry was a member and Deacon of Big Spring Church of Christ. He was a member of the Unaka Rod & Gun Club, and an avid hunter and fisherman.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years: Vickia Humphrey Hinkle. Three Sons: Joseph Ray Hinkle and Jeffrey Taylor Hinkle and wife Alissa all of Elizabethton and Josh Andrew Hinkle and wife Tonya, Johnson City. One Granddaughter: Olive Dovey Hinkle.

Graveside Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 24, 2013 in Happy Valley Memorial Park with Mr. Glen Layfield, Minister officiating. Burial will follow the service. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family would like to express a special gratitude to his many friends and family who have supported him during his illness. Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion & Tennessee National Guard.

To those who prefer memorials may be made in memory of Jerry to the Big Spring Church of Christ c/o Gary Cable 119 Sunny Acres, Elizabethton, Tenn. 37643. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 9:20 a.m. Tuesday to go to the cemetery. Condolences may be e-mailed to mfc@chartertn.net.
