Al Gordon, 76, 701 N. Roan Street, Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2011, in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital.

He was a native of Flint, Michigan, and had lived in Elizabethton since retirement in 1989.

Mr. Gordon was a son of the late Clarence and Frances William Gordon. He retired from General Motors Corporation, Flint, Michigan, after 36 years of service.

Mr. Gordon was a veteran, having served his country in the U.S. Navy.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Marl Al Gordon and Bobby Chambers; three sisters, Bethel Finton, Ester Heck and Ruthie Gordon; three brothers, Carl, Jack and Glenn Gordon.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Sue Chambers Gordon; three daughters, Donna Reece and her husband, Ronnie, Debra Bridgeman and her husband, Terry, all of Elizabethton, and Michelle Gordon, of Michigan; a son, Matthew Gordon, Michigan; three brothers, Rex, Don and Bill Gordon, all of Michigan; fourteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren; a special nephew, Larry Gordon; a special niece, Sherry Tomalia; special friends, Frank and Anna Reece and Virgil; a special sister-in-law, Barbara Chambers; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Gordon will be conducted at 2:00 PM Monday, June 6, 2011, from the Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City, with the Rev. Ronnie Reece officiating.

The family will receive friends from Monday from 12:00 noon until service time.

Burial will follow in the Happy Valley Memorial Park where Military Honors will be accorded by the Boone Dam VFW Honor Guard assisted by the National Guard. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
