Alma Bailey Clark Hicks, 85, Elizabethton, went home to be with our Lord and Savior, Tuesday July 12, 2011, at the Johnson City Medical Center.
Mrs. Hicks was born in Johnson City but lived most of her life in Carter County.
She was a daughter of the late Joel McKinley and Mary May Bailey. She was a graduate of Science Hill High School and attended East Tennessee State College. Mrs. Hicks was a longtime member of East River Park Christian Church. She was employed by North American Rayon Corporation and the Carter County School System for several years. Later, she had a private day care center for ten years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband of 40 years, Robert F. (Bud) Clark, March 30, 1987; and her second husband, Harold A. Hicks, August 14, 2003; and by a sister, Elizabeth Bailey Ervin, of Erwin.
She was a very loving person and will be missed greatly by those who knew her.
Survivors include two sons & daughters-in-law: Joel & Rita Clark, Elizabethton, and Robert & Carol Clark, Mountain City; A stepson, Patrick Hicks and wife, Connie, A stepdaughter: Rebecca Hicks and her husband, Ronnie, all of Elizabethton; A brother & sister-in-law: Edward & Charlene Bailey, Elizabethton. Several nieces, Nephews, cousins and grandchildren also survive.
The family, friends and pallbearers will assemble at Memorial Funeral Chapel at 1:30 p.m. Friday and proceed to Happy Valley Memorial Park for a service at 2 p.m. Graveside Service will be conducted by Mr. Charles Fitzsimmons, Minister. Active Pallbearers will be: Charles Pearce, Blake Taylor, Jamie Clark, Larry Nave, Cameron Bailey and Johnny Clark. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Mr. John H. Smith, Mr. Joel Stauffer, Mr. Barry Petit and church family of East River Park Christian Church, Kenneth Hartley, Tom Barkes, Phil Pearson, Dr. Robert Allen, Dr. Douglas Cole and office staff, Franklin Shoun, Clark Ervin, Lee Ervin and Lynn Ervin.
We are very grateful to the Castle Clinic Office Staff for the many years of health care of our family. We extend deep appreciation to the Mountain States Hospice Staff, Johnson City Medical Center Nursing Staff and employees for their kindness. The family was blessed with special caregivers who provided loving care to our mother during her illness.
