Alvin Guy, 88, of Elizabethton, went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, January 3, 2013, at the Life Care Center of Elizabethton following an extended illness.
He was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Carter and Daisy Harris Guy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of sixty six years, Sylvia Mae Clawson Guy, on October 27, 2012; two sisters, Oda and Leola; and four brothers, Floyd, Dana, Gaither, and Elmer Guy.
Mr. Guy was retired from General Motors in Detroit and was the former owner of the Princess Motel in Maryville, TN. He was a member of Elizabethton Church of Christ and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He loved gardening and raising beef cattle.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Harold Cloutier, Elizabethton; two grandsons, Matthew Cloutier and wife, Stephanie, Clarkston, MI; and Mark Cloutier and wife, Gina, Grand Blanc, MI; one great granddaughter, Chloe Christine Cloutier, Clarkston, MI. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Mr. Guy will be conducted at 4:00 PM on Sunday, January 6, 2013, in the Riverside Chapel at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Mr. Roby Ellis, minister, officiating.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM-4:00 PM prior to the service in the funeral home chapel.
The graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Monday, January 7, 2013, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton at 9:15 AM on Monday to go in procession to the cemetery.
