Arland R. Singleton, 73, of Roan Mountain, Tenn., went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at Roan Highlands Nursing Center following an extended illness. He was a son of the late Fate and Birdie Hughes Singleton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters and a granddaughter, Bridgit. Mr. Singleton was a native of Avery County, N.C., but had lived most of his life in Carter County. He was retired from Baxter Pharmaceuticals in Johnson City as a shipping and receiving clerk. He was a member and deacon of Morgan Branch Free Will Baptist Church and was a United States Air Force Veteran. Mr. Singleton loved gardening and enjoyed being with his family and going to church. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Wanda Irick Singleton, of the home; a daughter, Sherry Dellinger and husband Scott, Newland, N.C.; four sons, Tony Irick and wife Terri, Johnson City, Rick Singleton and wife Jennifer, Hampton, Steve Singleton and wife Kim, Roan Mountain, and Shayne Singleton and wife Erica, Elizabethton; two sisters, Irene Sparks, Bakersville, N.C., and Delma Cornell of Ohio; two brothers, F.D. Singleton, Roan Mountain, and Billy Singleton, Cloride, Ariz.; six grandchildren, Amber, Ashton, Donny, Jordyn, Haden and Adyson; and three great-grandchildren, Don Don, Ray Ray and Chasey. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Mr. Singleton will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, June 21, at Morgan Branch Free Will Baptist Church in Roan Mountain with Rev. Keith Gwyn, Rev. Delaney Young and Rev. Jerry Cannon officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, prior to the service, or at the residence at anytime. The graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 22, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Military Honors will be conducted by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be sons, grandsons and a nephew. Honorary pallbearers will be Herbert Hoilman and Rev. Keith Gwyn. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 1:50 p.m. Saturday.
