Mr. Arthur Franklin Shipley, age 89, of 324 Jonesboro Rd., Piney Flats, went to be with his Lord and Savior on May 21, 2011 following a brief illness.
He was a native of Jonesborough, TN and lived in Johnson City, Elizabethton and St. Petersburg, FL. He was a son of the late, John D. and Virginia Lena Oliver Shipley. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters and one loving Granddaughter, Heather Shipley.
Mr. Shipley retired from the Johnson City Fire Department as a Lieutenant, served as Chief at Reddington Beach, FL Fire Department. He was a past president of the Johnson City Optimist Club.
He was formerly a member of First Baptist Church, Elizabethton, and most recently a member of Piney Flats First Baptist Church.
Survivors include; his wife of 67 years, Jane Brumit Shipley; one daughter, Brenda S. Brown of Pigeon Forge; one son, Richard A. Shipley of Hampton; one Grandson, David Brown of Knoxville; three Grand Daughters, Mikki Brown of Pigeon Forge, Missi Brown Emmert of Nashville and Laura Shipley of PA;two Great Grandchildren, Dalton and Brooklin Emmert of Nashville.
A graveside service for family and friends will be conducted at 11:30 am Tuesday, May 24, 2011 from the Happy Valley Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel. Dr. Allen Davis will officiate. Honorary pallbearers will be Howard Arthur, David Brown, Dalton Emmert, Rodney Emmert, Joe Brumit, Sam Harvey, Bill Wise, Sr., Billl Wise, Jr., Timothy Wise, Bill Looney, Larry Schwartz, Charles Schwartz,and General Fred McCorkle (retired). Those wishing to attend please meet at the cemetery by 11:20 am Tuesday.
