Betty Ann Morton, 71, Roan Mountain, passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2013, at Johnson City Medical Center.

She was born in Welch, W.Va., a daughter of the late James and Georgia Marie Buchanan Brown.

Betty had lived most of her life in Carter County. She was a homemaker.

Betty was a contestant in the Rhododendron Beauty Pageant, Roan Mountain, on May 30, 1958. She was a member of the Elizabethton Church of Christ.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, D.C. Morton, December 16, 2012; two brothers, Joe and Charlie Brown; and two sisters, Viola Rizzatto and Joyce Brown.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Curtis and Sheila Morton, Hampton; two daughters, Penny Clark, Elizabethton, and Donna Eastridge, Mountain City; five grandchildren, Derrick Hughes, Amber Clark, Autumn Williams, Mitchell Morton and Mikki Clark; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Brewer of California; and a brother, Roger Brown of Iowa. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Morton will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, December 6, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. Roby Ellis, minister, and Mr. Derrick Hughes officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 7, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 9:20 a.m. Saturday, will be Mitchell Morton, Derrick Hughes, Scott Woodby, Ronnie Hicks, Larry Morton, Chris McMackin and Chris Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Elizabethton Church of Christ. The family would like an extended “Thank You” to little Zeb Roberts and Helen Tolley. Friends may also call at the residence of her son and daughter-in-law, Curtis and Sheila Morton, 931 Rittertown Road, Hampton.
