Betty Jo Montgomery

image Jo Montgomery, 83, of Hampton, went home to be with her Lord and her husband, H. Hoover “Monty” Montgomery, on Friday, June 22, 2012, at Hillview Health Center.

She was the daughter of the late Malcolm and Lillian Bryan Stewart and was born in Jamestown, La. In addition to her husband, who passed away on June 21, 1977, and her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Rev. G.W. Turner.

Mrs. Montgomery was a homemaker. She loved to travel, quilt and crochet. She was an active member of Hampton Christian Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Gale Scheibler and her husband, Mark, Windcrest, Texas, Lanelle Montgomery, Austin, Texas, and Kay Smith and her husband, Gary, Hampton; a son, Michael Montgomery and his wife, Donna, Austin, Texas; four grandsons, Ryan Harden and his wife, Jennifer, Austin, Texas, Monty Montgomery, Austin, Texas, Chris Murden, San Antonio, Texas, and Daniel Smith, Elizabethton; two granddaughters, Laurie McKibben and her husband, Randy, Golden, Colo., and Kasey Freier and her husband, George, Knoxville, Tenn.; a great-granddaughter, Tristen Freier, Knoxville, Tenn.; three great-grandsons, Cody McKibben, Golden, Colo., Emery Freier, Knoxville, Tenn., and Riley Harden, Austin, Texas; and a sister-in-law, Marguerite Turner, Elgin, Texas. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral service for Mrs. Montgomery will be conducted at 7 p.m. Sunday, June 24, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Mr. Dwayne Calhoun, minister, and Rev. David Montgomery officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, prior to the service. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, June 25, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. Monday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Hillview Health Center and to Dr. Vivian Clark and Dr. Martin Tran for all the love and care shown to Mrs. Montgomery.
