MSgt. Retired  Billie Eugene McCloud Sr.,  86, Hampton, passed away Friday, Dec. 14, 2012 in the Roan Highlands Nursing Center, Roan Mountain. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Joe L. and Edna Jenkins McCloud. Mr. McCloud retired after serving 31 years in the military. He served in World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam Era. He received seven Battle Stars and was at the Surrender of Japan Sept. 2, 1945.  The Bronze Veterans Plaque that has been on the Monument since 1992 was donated by Mr. McCloud. He was a member of the Hampton Christian Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Georgia Ruth Hopson and Ginger Fraley. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Martha Hartley McCloud; a daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and William E. Fessenden, Dayton, Ohio;  a son, Billie Eugene McCloud, Jr., Hampton; three grandchildren, Ralph, Jason and Tina Fessenden;  four great grandchildren, and a sister, Penny Calhoun and her husband, John, Hampton.

Funeral Services for Mr. McCloud will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 18, 2012, in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. Dwayne Calhoun, minister, officiating. Interment will follow in Happy Valley Memorial Park with pallbearers and military honors provided by Shaw Air Force Base. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the staff of Roan Highland Nursing Center for the excellent care that Billie received. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Friends may also visit with the family  at the residence. Condolences may be e-mailed to mfc@chartertn.net.
