Candy Sue James Fair, 61, 191 Big Springs Road, Elizabethton, passed away Monday, October 1, 2012, at her residence.

A native of Columbus, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Jesse and Ethel Montgomery James. She had lived most of her life in Carter County.

Candy was a 1968 graduate of Hampton High School. She was retired due to disability from North American Rayon Corporation, where she worked for over 13 years. She played softball and also coached softball. She was one of the founders of the 13-15-year-old ENLL softball league.

Candy was a member of Zion Baptist Church. She loved her grandchildren and loved to watch them play sports.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, David Shane Fair, in 1976; a grandson, Andrew Easton Fair, in May 2001; and two brothers, Bill and Bob James.

Survivors include her husband of 41 years, Johnnie Fair; a daughter, Tracey Fair Johnson and her husband Bradley, Elizabethton; two sons, Sean Fair and wife Holli and Stacy Fair and wife Tracy, all of Elizabethton; five grandchildren, Austin, Summer and Peyton Johnson, Haley and Dalton Fair; five sisters, Betty James, Barbara Matheson and Brenda Stout, all of Elizabethton, Pat Campbell and Carol McClain, both of Hampton; a brother, Jesse James, Hampton; her special friend, Connie Benfield Tilson; and her special dog, “Tootie.”

Funeral services for Mrs. Fair will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday, October 3, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Dr. Alan King officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, October 4, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to Caris Hospice, Tracy, R.N., and Vonda, R.N. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Friends may also visit with the family at the residence. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 11:50 a.m. Thursday to go to the cemetery.
