Mr. Cecil Harley Reed Jr., 79, of 933 Dejarnette Street, Elizabethton, passed away on Wednesday, August 10, 2011, in the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center Hospital following an extended illness.
He was born in Bedford, IN, and was the son of the late Cecil Harley Reed Sr. and Katherine G. Carter Reed.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Fairy Lee Reed.
Mr. Reed was a veteran of the United States Army and served during the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts. He was retired from NARC after twenty-two years of service. He was a member of American Legion Post #49, and attended the Church of the Nazarene.
Mr. Reed is survived by his wife, Nell L. Reed, of the home; children, Harley Ken Reed, Mary Ann Oliver and her husband, Norman, Lassie Reed, Peggy Taylor and her husband, Paul, Kay Presley and her husband, Mark, Brandon Reed, Sabrina Reed and Sarah Reed; grandchildren, Sharon Stewart, Holly Teachworth and her husband, Chris, Chris Taylor, Amanda Taylor, Jessica Taylor, Christiana Britt; great-grandchildren, William and Rachel Stewart, Dominic and Gabriel Hubbard, DaLeanna and David Reed and Aiden Teachworth; four sisters and two brothers. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Mr. Reed will be conducted on Friday, August 12, 2011, at 7:00 PM in the Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, Elizabethton, with Rev. Kenley Knight officiating. Music will be under the direction of Kristi Knight.
The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5:00-7:00 PM Friday prior to the service and at the home at other times.
The graveside service and interment will be conducted on Saturday, August 13, 2011, at 11:00 AM at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post #49. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 AM on Saturday to go in procession to the cemetery.
Mrs. Reed and the family would like to extend a special thank you to all the people at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center Hospital who helped with the care of Mr. Reed.
