image Chad Shawn Grindstaff, 36, 109 Pierce Branch Road, Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, July 29, 2012, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital.

A native of Asheville, N.C., he was the son of Bobby J. Grindstaff, Burnsville, N.C., and Barbara S. McKinney Grindstaff, Elizabethton.

Mr. Grindstaff was a member of Doe River Baptist Church and a 1994 graduate of Hampton High School. He was a graduate of the Police Academy at Walters State Community College.

Mr. Grindstaff had worked with the Carter County’s Sheriff Department for 17 years, with his last position being a Criminal Investigator. He enjoyed riding motorcycles.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Rev. Erby McKinney, and his paternal grandmother, Jewel Grindstaff.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include his wife, Christian Stewart Grindstaff, of the home; his twin sister, Crystal Dawn Grindstaff, Elizabethton; his maternal grandmother, Louise McKinney, Elizabethton; his paternal grandfather, Jay Grindstaff, Burnsville, N.C.; an uncle, Kenneth Grindstaff, Burnsville, N.C.; and two aunts, Debbie Radford and Carol Duszak, both of Elizabethton. Several special cousins, nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral service for Mr. Grindstaff will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday, August 1, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. James Hawk and Rev. Ronnie Reece officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, prior to the service. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 2, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. A Police Honor Guard and full Police Honors are to be accorded to Mr. Grindstaff. Active pallbearers will be members of the Carter County Sheriff’s Department. Honorary pallbearers will be Brad Hamm, Brian Whitehead, Terry Bridgeman, David Flythe and Jacob Force. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery.
