Charles E. Powell

Charles Edward Powell, 75, Elizabethton, passed away Monday, April 11, 2011, in the Unicoi County Memorial Hospital.

A native of Roan Mountain, he was a son of the late Stewart and Lou Hill Powell. He was a Construction Worker and a Grocery Store Owner. His hobby was farming.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two Sisters: Wanda Lee Hart and Mozelle Sellers; and two brothers: Homer and Ronald Powell.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years: Billie Jean Hayes Powell; A Daughter & Son-In-Law: Carolyn and Gene Stansberry, Elizabethton; Two Grandchildren: Gina Lewis and husband, Daniel, and Michael Stansberry; Two Great Grandchildren: Tyler & Madison; One Sister: Norma Jean Stines, Elizabethton; Two Brothers: Dave and Roy Powell, both of Elizabethton; Several Nieces & Nephews.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Ken Hauser officiating.

Graveside Service and Interment will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Music will be provided by Teresa Range. Active Pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Thursday will be: Danny Hilbert, Bo Guinn, Josh Guinn, Brandon Shell, Sam Rogers and Dick Oatman.

The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the Staff and Employees of the Erwin Health Care Center.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence of his daughter & son-in-law: Carolyn & Gene Stansberry. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Thursday to go to the cemetery.
