Charles Ray “Dick” Peters, 83, Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday, December 4, 2013, in the Johnson City Medical Center. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Gordon and Jennie Morrell Peters. He was a retired employee of the City of Elizabethton. He formerly was employed at North American Rayon Corporation. Dick was a member of Watauga Masonic Lodge #622, the York Rite Bodies, Jericho Shrine Temple and the Elizabethton Oriental Band. He was active in the Carter County Rescue Squad for 35 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and the four Square Sunday School Class. Dick was also a member of the Praying Mountain Men. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister: Evelyn Manning; and a brother: Paul Myers. Survivors include a daughter: Lou Eller, Elizabethton; Two Granddaughters: Lia Pritchard and husband, Brian, Fall Branch, and Cindy Eller, Bristol; A Great Grandson: Jake Pritchard; Two Sisters: Betty Benfield and Pedge Lancaster, both of Elizabethton. Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, December 6, 2013, in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Dr. Earl Davis officiating. Interment will follow in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active Pallbearers will be: Brian Pritchard, Wayne McClain, Larry Lancaster, Johnny Lancaster, Gary Lancaster, Jackie Hopson, Jeff Sharpe and Greg Benfield. Honorary Pallbearers will be: The Four Square Sunday School Class, First Baptist Church, The Praying Mountain Men, Members and former members of the Carter County Rescue Squad, All the Masonic Bodies, Alf Campbell and Bill Wilhoit. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Mr. Peters to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, South Carolina 29605-4255. Masonic Services will be conducted following the funeral service by Watauga Masonic Lodge #622. Friends may also call at the residence of his daughter: Lou Eller, Elizabethton.
