Christine Hughes Matheson, 84 entered into eternal rest on Sunday, February 17th, 2013. Born in Johnson City, TN, she had resided in Elizabethton most of her life. She was a 1946 graduate of EHS and had formerly worked for East TN. Undergarment and North Electric. Christine was a faithful member of Valley Forge Christian Church having occasionally taught Sunday School. She was a wonderful loving mother, wife, grandmother and friend, and will be sadly missed by all those whose life she touched.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Matheson; parents, Toye Hughes and Blanche Proveaux Hughes; daughter, Katie Humphrey Barr; grandson, Michael Fleenor; sister, Irene Parker; and brother, Oscar Hughes.

Christine is survived by her two daughters, Gail Fleenor and husband, Gene, Angie Finney and husband, Jerome of Elizabethton; son, Mel Matheson and wife, Kaye of Kingsport, TN; Grandchildren, Jennifer Woodby, Tyler Humphrey, Rachael Finney, David Finney; Bryan Carroll and wife, Courtney, Amanda Carroll Depew and husband, Grant; great grandchildren, Seth and Abbie Fleenor, Hannah Woodby, Kyrin Maxwell, Blaklee and Keeton Carroll, Hannah and Huntley Depew; Great Great Grandaughter, Aerryan Fleenor; 3 brothers, Johnny Hughes and wife, Betty, Jack Hughes and wife, Judy, Lester Hughes and wife, Jo Ruth; 2 sisters; Shirley Fair, Patsy Frazier and companion, Harold Oaks along with several nieces and nephews. The family would also like to thank the staff at Hillview Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center and Amedysis Hospice for their wonderful care.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Memorial Funeral Home, Elizabethton, TN. or anytime at the home of Mrs. Matheson. Funeral service will follow in the chapel at 7 p.m. with The Rev. David Siebenaler and the Rev. Gene Fleenor officiating. Music will be provided by her loving son, Mel Matheson. Entombment Services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday in the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Thursday will be: Tyler Humphrey, Seth Fleenor, David Finney, Byran Carroll, Grant Depew, Tyler Trussler and Jeromy Finney. Honorary pallbearers will be her church family and nephews. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” for the excellent care received from Hillview Health Center and Amedisys Hospice. Friends may also visit with the family at her residence. Family & friends will meet at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Thursday to go to the cemetery.
