Claude Morton, 88, Elizabethton, went to be with the Lord, Thursday April 19, 2012, at his residence after a brief illness.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late James Dalton and Sadie Hinkle Morton. He was a retired Machinist from the Raytheon Corporation, Bristol. Mr. Morton served in the United States Air Force during World War II. He attended First Free Will Baptist Church. He was a 50 year member of Hampton Masonic Lodge #750.
He loved his family and loved to farm and raise horses.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Nora Hyder Morton, February 17, 2002; and by Three sisters, Velma Lipford, Mazie Davis and Lockie Oliver
Survivors include his son & daughter-in-law: Shannon & Becky Morton, Elizabethton; His beloved granddaughter: Aimee; Two Brothers & One Sister-in-law: Clark & June Morton, Canton, North Carolina, and Sanford Morton, Hampton; Several Nieces & Nephews.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Phil Poston officiating.
Graveside Service and Interment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 21, 2012, in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active Pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m. Saturday, will be: Carl Montgomery, Todd Montgomery, Leonard Oliver, Mick Oliver, John Presnell and Gerald Mount. Honorary Pallbearer will be Harold Montgomery.
The family would like to express a special “Thank You†to Amedisys Home Health and Amedisys Hospice for the excellent care that was received.
Military Honors will be provided by the Carter County Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Friends may also call at his residence. Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m. Saturday.
