Clyde McKinley Hodge, 82, Gap Creek community, Elizabethton, went home to be with his Lord Friday, November 16, 2012, in the Johnson City Medical Center after a brief illness.

A native of Johnson County, he was a son of the late Charlie and Bell Murray Hodge. He had lived most of his life in Carter County. He was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation after 37 years of service. Mr. Hodge was a member of the Zion Baptist Church where he had served as a Deacon for over fifty years. He was a member of Roan Creek Masonic Lodge # 679 since 1954 and a member of Jericho Shrine Temple. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Praying Mountain Men and loved to listen to gospel music. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife: Mamie Strickland Hodge, March 30, 2005, and by two half-brothers: Robert Murray and James Hodge.

Survivors include his wife: Lucille Courtner C. Hodge; two daughters and sons-in-law: Helen and Gene Renfro and Lynn and Bill Haynes all of Johnson City; two sons and daughters-in-law: Floyd and Kim Hodge, Buda, Texas, and Wayne and Jean Birchfield, Hampton; a step-daughter, Nioka Markland, and her husband, David, Butler; a step-son: Michael Lowe, Butler; seven grandchildren: Crystal Flores, San Antonio, Texas, Chris Birchfield, of Indiana, Gene Renfro, Johnson City, Paul Hodge and Matthew Hodge both of Buda, Texas, and Meredith and Alison Haynes, Johnson City; three great-grandchildren: McKinnley Self, Gentry Self and Caliope Flores; one step-granddaughter: Stephanie White; and one step-great granddaughter: Savannah Riley of Greeneville, S.C.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Sherrill Nave, Dr. D. Alan King and Pastor Alan Koch officiating. Graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 20, 2012, in Happy Valley Memorial Park with the Rev. Ronnie Campbell officiating. Music will be provided by The Zion Baptist Church Choir, Crystal Flores , Sonny Gouge,Bruce Hall, Meredith Haynes, Clarinetist, Nioka Markland, Pianist, Patsy Hubbard, Pianist and Howard Ensor, Piper. Active Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Tuesday will be: Gene Renfro, David Markland, Michael Lowe, Matthew Hodge, Chad Bogart and Chet Badgent.

A Masonic Memorial Service will be conducted following the funeral service by Roan Creek Masonic Lodge # 679. Military Honors will be provided by the Carter County Honor Guard.

To those who prefer, memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 950 West Faris Street, Greenville, SC 29605. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. Friends may also visit with the family at the residence. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Tuesday to go to the cemetery. Condolences may be e-mailed to mfc@chartertn.net.
