Cordie Rice Bowers

Mrs. Cordie Rice Bowers, 94, of Knoxville, Tenn., died Sunday, January 23, 2011, in the Brakebill Nursing Home, Knoxville. A native of Mendota, Va., she was the daughter of the late Hugh P. and Lily White Rice. Mrs. Bowers was a homemaker. During World War II she was an inspector for S.E. Massengill Company and National Fireworks in Bristol, Va. She was a member of Siam Baptist Church, Elizabethton, where she taught Sunday School for over 50 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley G. Bowers, three brothers and three sisters.

Mrs. Bowers is survived by two sons, Robert W. Bowers and wife Brenda and Marvin H. Bowers and wife Sherry, all of Knoxville; grandchildren, Jennifer Garner and husband Gant, Atlanta, Ga., Heather Tauscher and husband Joshua, Knoxville, Curtis Bowers and wife Krista, San Antonio, Texas, and Marc Bowers and his fiancée, Emily Petersen, Orlando, Fla.; great-grandchildren, Bailey Garner, Nathan Garner, Jordan Tauscher and Logan Tauscher; and two sisters, Gladys Minga and Hazel Guffey, both of Bristol, Va. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral service for Mrs. Bowers will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, January 27, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home with Rev. Adam Polk officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mr. John Ridenour. Interment will follow the funeral service at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family will receive friends at Tetrick Funeral Home from 1:30 until 2:30 p.m. Thursday, prior to the funeral service.
