Mr. Daigel L. Shaw, Sr., 68, of Hampton, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 27, 2011 at the home of his sister.
He joined his family who passed before him into the presence of the Lord; his parents, Louis and Dolora Shaw, a brother, Dean Shaw and a brother-in-law, Louie Greenwell.
He was born in Carter County. During his career he worked at American Air Filter, NARC and retired from Summers Hardware & Supply Co. He was a member of Pleasant Beach Baptist Church.
Daigel was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, neighbor and friend. He was an avid sports nut who followed a wide variety of sporting events with a special interest in the Hampton Bulldogs and the UT Vols. He loved spending time with his family and he loved to eat good food. He will be greatly missed by all.
He is survived by a son, Daigel L. Shaw, Jr.; his grandson, the “light of his life, Cody L. Shaw; both of Hampton; his sister and caregiver Roma Greenwell; Hampton; a brother and sister-in-law, Glenn and Kay Shaw, Elizabethton; two nieces, Regina Cates and her husband, Jeff, Elizabethton; Robin Strickland and her husband, Bill, Gray; two nephews, Tyler Shaw, and Craig Shaw, both of Elizabethton. He is also survived by an uncle, Daigel Moody, Butler and two aunts, Mary Alice Shaw, Butler, and Edith Moody, Elizabethton.
The funeral service for Mr. Shaw will be conducted on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at 8:00 PM in the Tetrick Funeral Home, Chapel of Peace, Elizabethton with Mr. David Sieibenaler, minister and Rev. Bobby Stout officiating. Music will be under the direction of Dean Palmer, soloist. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Tuesday prior to the service and at the home of his sister, Roma Greenwell, Hampton, at other times.
The graveside service and interment will be conducted on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at 11:30 AM at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Tyler Shaw, Craig Shaw, Charles Hinkle, Jim. V. Moody, Bobby Joe Oliver, MacArthur Hinkle and Cody Shaw. Honorary pallbearers will be Donnie Carden, Howard Grindstaff, Bob Elliott, Kenneth Hicks, his co-workers and former employees at Summers Hardware & Supply Co. and his friends and neighbors. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:45 AM Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery.
The family would like to express a special thank you to the doctors and nurses and other employees of Sycamore Shoals Hospital, especially Shon Blevins, RN, Dr. Jeff Farrow, his doctor for 20 years, and Dr. Anna Broome-Gilbert for the kind and loving care shown to Mr. Shaw and the family.
