Dallas “Rabbit” White, 71, of Johnson City, passed away on Monday, September 9, 2013, at his residence following an extended illness. He was born in Carter County, the oldest son of Chalmer and Hazel Garland White. Mr. White retired from Eastman Chemical Company after thirty years of service and attended New Liberty Free Will Baptist when he was younger. He was a member of American Legion Post 49 and Disabled American Veterans. He was a United States Army veteran, having served in the Vietnam Era and was a graduate of Unaka High School, Class of 1961. He loved the outdoors and mountains, fishing, hunting and camping. Survivors include his wife of forty-eight years, Wanda Campbell White, of the home; three sons, Gary White, Johnson City, Michael White and wife, Melissa, Savannah, GA, and Kevin White and wife, Jennifer, Blountville, TN; three grandchildren, Christopher Grindstaff, Savannah, GA, Eathan White and Thatcher Card, both of Blountville; five sisters, Mary Lou Davenport, Belva Dean White, Evelyn Andes and Thelma Nutter, all of Elizabethton, and Jo Ann Reece, Knoxville; three brothers, Richard White, Johnson City, Roger White and Tony White, both of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The committal and entombment service for Mr. White will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 13, 2013, in the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Mr. Derek Cornett, minister, officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Friends may call at the residence at anytime. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:55 AM on Friday. The family would like to express a special thank you to all the doctors and staff of the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center, especially Dr. B, for all the love and care shown to Mr. White and his family, during his illness.
