Dana Harmon Dykes, 91, 105 Dykes Hill, Johnson City, went home to be with his Lord, Saturday, December 1, 2012, in the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center.

A native of Jonesborough, he was a son of the late Earl and Cleta Riddle Dykes.

He served in the United States Army during World War II. He served in the 69th Division. He was a recipient of the EAME Ribbon w/2 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, the Purple Heart and the Victory Medal. He was in the Battle of the Bulge.

He was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation after 40 plus years. Following that he was employed in the Older Americans division of the United States Forrest Service. He worked there for 15 years. He was a member of the Roan Mountain Masonic Lodge # 566 and was a member of the Scottish Rite. Mr. Dykes was the oldest member of Watauga Point United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Blanche Dykes; two sisters; and seven brothers.

Survivors include Three Daughters & Sons-in-Law: Kay & Jerry Freeman, Elizabethton, Fay & T.H. Johnson, Maryville, Tenn., and Kathy & Steve Bailey, Johnson City; Two Sons & Daughters-in-law: Charles & Judy Dykes and Kenneth Dykes Sr. and wife, Marcie, all of Johnson City; One Sister: Frances Frydinger, San Antonio, Texas; One Brother: Jesse Wayne Dykes, Johnson City; 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great grandchildren; A special devoted furry friend, Tommy; Two special Angels: Teresa Phipps and Lou Calloway; Several nieces & nephews.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Estel Williams and Rev. Mack Houston officiating.

Graveside Service and Interment will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 5, 2012, in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Music will be provided by the Gospel Trio and Jacob Tipton. Active Pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 9:20 a.m. Wednesday, will be: Ken Dykes Jr., Jeff Dykes, Keith Sams, Steve Bailey, Joey Sams and Scott Sellers.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Friends may also visit with the family and his residence. There will be a Masonic Graveside Services at the cemetery conducted by Roan Mountain Masonic Lodge # 566. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 9:20 a.m. Wednesday to go to the cemetery.
