Mrs. Della Jane Bowers, age 79, of Elizabethton, a loving wife, mother and grandmother, died Friday, April 27, 2012, in the Hillview Health Center.

A native of Carter County she was the daughter of the late Ulysses E. Mann and Vicie Baird Mann Hopkins. Mrs. Bowers had been a seamstress at Wetzel’s Cleaners.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Jane Bowers Perry; five brothers, Harold Lee Mann, Bill Mann, Ernest Mann, Carroll (Moose) Mann and Floyd Hopkins; and two sisters, Ann Greenwell and Bonnie Williams.

Survivors include her husband of sixty-one years, James E. Bowers, Elizabethton; a son, Rick L. Bowers, Elizabethton; three grandchildren, Jesse Bowers and wife, Lyndsay, Knoxville, Jenny Bowers Miller and husband, Josh, Elizabethton and Conley Bowers, Elizabethton; two sisters, Flora Turner and Wanda Lane and husband, Jimmy, all of Elizabethton; sisters-in-law, Lilian Royston, Nanny Morris, Helen Buckles and husband, Earl, and Evelyn Blevins; and special nieces, Lori Turner and Sharon Williams, both of Elizabethton. Several additional nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral service for Mrs. Della Jane Bowers will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Monday, April 30, 2012, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Rev. Charlie Trivette and Rev. Ray Stockton officiating. Eulogies will be given by Jesse Bowers and Jenny Bowers Miller.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-7:00 P.M. on Monday prior to the funeral service.

Graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, May 1, 2012, in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Kenny Webb, Jerry Royston, Danny Blevins, Kenneth West, Jimmy Lane and Kenneth Garland. Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 10:15 A.M. on Tuesday to go in procession to the cemetery.

The family would like to express a special thanks to the staff of Amedysis Hospice and the nurses and staff of Hillview Health Center for their loving care of Mrs. Bowers.
