Mr. Dewey G. “Dubie” Renfro, 61, of Elizabethton, passed away on Thursday, November 7, 2013, at his home. He was born in Carter County and was the son of the late Earl D. and Ellen Bradshaw Renfro. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Bill, Herb and Wade Renfro; a sister, Mary Perry; and infant twin sister, Loraine Renfro. Mr. Renfro was a veteran of the United States Army and the United States Marine Corps and served during the Vietnam conflict. He was a retired employee of the United States Postal Service and a member of Pleasant Beach Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Mikkie Renfro, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Kathy Renfro, Murphy, NC; a granddaughter, Khristin Renfro, Murphy, NC; a step-son, Alex Odom, Elizabethton; a brother, Bob Renfro, Dothan, AL; and two sisters, Joyce Richards, Bluff City, and Romaine Watson, Elizabethton; special friends, Sam Crowder, Larry Beam and Wanda Barnette. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Mr. Renfro will be conducted on Monday, November 11, 2013, at 7:00 PM in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Bill Nelson officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5:00-7:00 PM on Monday and at the residence at other times. The committal and entombment service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, November 12, 2013, at the Mausoleum of Peace, Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Jim Odom, Roy Hyder, Sam Crowder, Keith Renfro, Billy Wade Renfro and David VanDyke. Honorary pallbearers will be Rev. Bobby Stout, Tom Jessee, Johnny Huffman, Tim Williams, Garrett Aldridge, Richard Hyder, Paul Burrow, Lynn Dugger, Danny Akers, David Wetzel, Eddie Carver, John Davis, Dale Fair, Mike Barnette, Danny Avery, Keith Turner, Kevin Kiser, Sambo Crowder, Elvin Brown and the former basketball players of Elizabethton High School, whom he enjoyed watching so much. Military honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 AM on Tuesday to go in procession to the cemetery. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the charity of their choice.
