Ms. Dixie Taylor Broome, 66, of Elizabethton, TN, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, November 20, 2012, in Elizabethton.
She was born in Carter County on December 1, 1945, and was the daughter of the late Glenn and Goldie Hoss Taylor. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby R. (Bob) Broome, on July 19, 1999.
Ms. Broome was retired from the Carter County School System, where she coached various women’s sports. She taught Physical Education, Biology and Health at Happy Valley High School. She finished her career at Happy Valley Elementary School as a librarian. She was a member of Big Springs Church of Christ and loved teaching children.
Ms. Broome was a 1963 graduate of Elizabethton High School and also graduated from Milligan College in 1966.
Survivors include one daughter, Dr. Anna Broome Gilbert and her husband Carl, Butler, TN; one son, Robert G. Broome, Knoxville, TN; two grandchildren, Chase Alexander Gilbert and Ava Catherine Gilbert, Butler, TN; one sister, Glenda Gillentine and her husband, Jack, Norfolk, VA; her life-long best friend, Rose Marie Armstrong, Elizabethton, TN; a special friend, Nancy Crumley, Elizabethton, TN. Several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.
The graveside service for Ms. Broome will be conducted at 3:30 PM on Wednesday, November 21, 2012, at Happy Valley Memorial Park in Elizabethton with Mr. Terry Lyons, Minister, officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM-3:00 PM in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton prior to the service. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Clark, Joel Clark, Mildred Rodriguez, Sammy and Julie Atkins, Paul and Jackie Taylor and the teachers at Happy Valley Elementary School. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at 3:00 PM on Wednesday at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, to go in procession to the cemetery.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Clarence Spannuth and Dr. Leslie Panus for the loving care given to Dixie during her life.
