Mrs. Donna Deloris Potter Troutman, 68, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord, on Sunday, July 31, 2011 at her home.

She was born on February 3, 1943 in Hampton, TN to the late Shirley Stout and Donald Potter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Prentice Potter.

Mrs. Troutman graduated from Cloudland High School in 1960 and East Tennessee State University in 1964 earning a Bachelors Degree in Nursing. She continued her education at the University of Tennessee, graduating in 1984 with a Masters Degree in Nursing. She was a member and past president of Epsilon Sigma, Sigma Theta Tau International, (the Nursing Honor Society), District Five Tennessee Nursing Association of the American Nursing Association, where she held office. She was a member and past president of the Elizabethton Business and Professional Women’s Club. Mrs. Troutman was a member of Heritage Baptist Church in Johnson City.

Her most memorable years of nursing were at the old Carter County Hospital where she opened and trained the staff of the first Intensive Care Unit. She retired from the James H. Quillen Veterans Administration Medical Center Hospital with the position of Associate Chief of the Nursing Service following thirty years of service.

Mrs. Troutman is survived by her husband of forty-eight years, Jim Troutman of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Tim and Tammy Troutman, Elizabethton; Todd and Sandy Troutman, Flowery Branch, GA; a daughter and son-in-law, Tabetha and Kurt McGlinchey, Cincinnati, OH; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a brother, Steve Potter and his wife, Janet, Elizabethton and a sister-in-law, Jewel Potter, Cranberry, NC.

Several nieces and nephews and a very special friend, Ruth James, of Elizabethton, also survive.

The Celebration of Life service for Mrs. Troutman will be conducted on Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at 7:00 PM in the Chapel of Peace, Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. Randy Johnson and Pastor Kenn Hecht officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Wednesday prior to the service and at the home at other times.

The graveside service and interment will be conducted on Thursday, August 4, 2011 at 10:00 AM at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Randy Potter, Donnie Potter, Jake Potter, Richard Street, Bob Buck and Josh Troutman. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Tester, the Senior Sunday School Class at Heritage Baptist Church and her friends, neighbors and friends from all area churches. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home at 9:15 AM Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery.
