image Mrs. Dorothy Bunting Childress, 85, of Bristol, died Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at The Cambridge House in Bristol following an extended illness. A native of Butler, TN she was the daughter of the late Jadie S. and Ida Reece Bunting. Mrs. Childress was a graduate of Elizabethton High School, Mars Hill Junior College, Mars Hill, NC and received a B.S. Degree from East Tennessee State University. During World War II, she worked for the American Red Cross office in Elizabethton. After graduation from E.T.S.U., she moved to Bristol, TN and joined the Bristol TN School System as teacher at Anderson Elementary School. After several years she transferred to Haynesfield Elementary School from which she retired in 1985 after thirty-three years service.

Mrs. Childress was a member of First Baptist Church, Bristol, VA. She was a former Sunday School teacher of the Business Women’s Class. She was a former Training Union Director of First Baptist Church in Elizabethton, TN. Mrs. Childress was a former member of the National Education Association, the Bristol TN Education Association and the Delta Kappa Gamma Honorary Society.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Childress was preceded in death by her husband, Roy K. Childress and one infant child. Survivors include a son, Ken Childress and wife Michelle, Bristol, VA; a grandson, Logan Childress, Bristol, VA; a sister-in-law, Ann Robinson and husband Frank, Elizabethton and a first cousin, Nell Jenkins and husband Clyde, Elizabethton.

Funeral service for Mrs. Dorothy Bunting Childress will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, November 18, 2010 in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. Ron Owens officiating. Interment will follow the funeral service in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Thomas Isaacs, Todd Isaacs, Millard Fitzsimmons, Bud Julian, Nathan Goodwin and Clyde Jenkins. Honorary pallbearers will be Phil Isaacs, Glenn Isaacs, Fred Goodwin, Joshua Robinson and Frank Robinson.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 – 11:00 A.M. on Thursday prior to the funeral service.
