Ms. Dorothy “Dottie” Hathaway Broome, age 80, of Elizabethton passed away Sunday, March 11, 2012 at Ivy Hall Nursing Home following an extended illness.

A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Harry Carriger and Sarah Emily Wilcox Hathaway. Dottie retired from the Elizabethton Electric System. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Elizabethton where she had worked in the Church’s preschool program. Dottie was very artistic and loved to paint; she enjoyed playing Bridge and was an animal lover. She loved her family very much.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, David Brian Broome and an infant son, James Levan Broome; a sister, Alberta “Bo” Lusk; a great-nephew, Casey Lowe and two brothers-in-law, Johnny Knox and Joe Lusk. Survivors include a daughter, Linda Crowe, Elizabethton; two sisters, Janey Knox, Cocoa, FL and Betty Lou Day and husband Millard, Elizabethton; her nieces and nephews, Harriet Lowe, Cocoa, FL; Dicky Lou Cooter, Elizabethton, Mike Cooter, Jonesborough; Col. Mark Cooter, Langley Air Force Base, VA, Matthew H. Cooter, Elizabethton and Lisa Lusk, Amy Lusk and Scott Lusk, all of Johnson City. Several great-nieces and great-nephews and a special friend, Mae Younce, Elizabethton also survive.

Inurnment service for Ms. Dorothy “Dottie” Hathaway Broome will be conducted at 1:30 P.M. Wednesday, March 14, 2012 in Happy Valley Memorial Park with Rev. Ray Amos officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mr. Jerry Barnett. Honorary pallbearers will be Carroll Broome, the father of her children, Millard Day, Mike Cooter, Mark Cooter, Matthew Cooter, Scott Lusk, Bill Broome and Horace Broome. The family will receive friends at Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services on Wednesday from Noon until 1:00 P.M. prior to the inurnment service
