“Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.” Hebrews 10:25 Doyle Charles Turbyfill, 90, Ivy Hall Nursing Home, formerly of Watauga, went home to be with his Lord, Sunday, June 9, 2013, following an extended illness. A native of Avery County, N.C., he was a son of the late Joseph and Ida Keller Turbyfill. Mr. Turbyfill had lived most of his life in Carter County. He retired in 1992 from North American Rayon Corporation after 44 years of employment. Mr. Turbyfill was a very active member of Borderview Christian Church until the beginning of his illness in August 2008. He was a former deacon and greeter of the church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jerry Kenneth Turbyfill, June 25, 2008; his son-in-law, I.B. Davis, June 10, 2009; his grandson, Michael Charles Davis, August 11, 2010; eight brothers, Arthur, Roscoe, Hilton, Gentry, Dallas, Barney, Robert and Denny Turbyfill; and three sisters, Ines Puckett, Dorothy O’Quinn and Della Phipps. He was the last member of his family. Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Muriel Carter Turbyfill; two daughters and a son-in-law, Beverly and Craig Murray and Sharran Davis, all of Elizabethton; a daughter-in-law, Rita Turbyfill, Wellford, S.C.; a grandson and his wife, Christopher and Kristi Davis, Elizabethton; a granddaughter and her husband, Stephanie and Kevin Hyder, Wellford, S.C.; and three great-grandchildren, Preston, Karrigan and Brylee Davis. Several nieces and nephews also survive. A Service to Celebrate the Life of Doyle Charles Turbyfill will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 11, at Borderview Christian Church. Music will be provided by Suzette Markland, Ray Don Markland, Scott Reynolds and the congregation. The graveside service and interment will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 12, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the church at 7:55 p.m. Tuesday, and also at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Wednesday, will be Preston Davis, Gerald Holly, Harold Hicks, Scott Reynolds, Lawrence Ritchie, Jody Crowe, Bill Turbyfill and Ray Don Markland. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Love, Howard Bowers, Earl Ellis, Ray Markland, Jack Williams, his church family and friends at Ivy Hall Nursing Home. The family would like to extend a special “Thank You” to Judy and Victor Deloach and the entire staff of Ivy Hall Nursing Home for the excellent care that our husband and father received during his stay there. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Borderview Christian Church. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Wednesday to go to the cemetery.
