Dr. Jerry Dale Holt, 78, of Johnson City, passed away on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 in the Christian Care Center of Johnson City, following an extended illness.
Dr. Holt was a native of Carter County and a son of the late John Henry and Alcyone Tate Holt.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, James Brook Holt and Eugene Holt; and two sisters, Peggy Anderson and Lois Jarrett.
Dr. Holt was a teacher at Happy Valley High School and was a member of East Unaka Christian Church. He was a lifelong educator, having served as teacher, administrator and principal. He was a skilled woodworker and enjoyed helping people in the community.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Betty Slemp Holt, of the home; two sons, Dale Holt, Charlotte, NC, and Erik Holt, Seattle, WA; two daughters, Lydia Wright, Kingsport, and Leeanna Slone, Johnson City; eight grandchildren, Jessie, Wesley and Amanda Craft, Alyssa, Arianna, Christian and Cassidy Holt, and Patience Slone; two great granddaughters, Vittoria and Julia Craft; and one sister, Eloise Mabry, Waynesboro, VA. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Dr. Holt will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 30, 2013 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Mr. Todd Wolfe, minister and Dr. Wayne Emery, officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM-2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Saturday.
The graveside service will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be the Men of East Unaka Christian Church.
Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers, may make donations to East Unaka Christian Church, 1201 E. Unaka Avenue, Johnson City, TN 37601.
