Dr. Micheal Carter, age 64, of Elizabethton, died on Monday, June 6, 2011, at the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following a brief struggle with cancer.

He was the son of the late Truman and Mable Gregory Carter and was born in Nashville, TN.

Dr. Carter was a veteran of the United States Air Force, having served in Vietnam and four of the years he was in the Air Force he worked with the NSA. He was a retired educator with the Kingsport City School System and was a member of the Retired Teachers Association of Kingsport, the NEA, TEA, KEA, NCTM and the ASCD.

Dr. Carter was a member of First Christian Church in Elizabethton, where he served as an Elder for many years. His hobbies included a love of gardening.

He is survived by his wife, Susan Brumit Carter, of the home; two sons, Joshua Carter and Jeffrey Carter, both of Elizabethton; two daughters, Dr. Petrea Cober and her husband, Dr. Eric Cober, Independence, OH, Caryn Carter, Elizabethton; a grandson, Benjamin Cober, Independence, OH; a sister, Faye Wells, Byrdstown, TN; a nephew, Robert Wells and his wife, Wendy, Hendersonville, TN; and niece, Mary Wells, Belmont, MA.

The funeral service for Dr. Carter will be conducted at 4:00 PM on Friday, June 10th at First Christian Church in Elizabethton with Mr. Brent Nidiffer, minister, officiating.

The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 PM at the church prior to the service.

The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 11th, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Military honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post #49. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:55 AM.
