Mr. Earl J. Rock, 87, of Elizabethton, passed away on Friday, December 28, 2012, at the Johnson City Medical Center.

He was the son of the late Clarence and Blanch Smith Rock.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Carolyn Rock Holly on December 27, 1991; one sister, Ruby Williams; and two brothers, Howard Rock and Velmer Rock.

Mr. Rock was born in Washington County, Virginia, but had lived most of his life in Carter County, Tennessee. He had worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a Rural Route Carrier and was a member of Stoney Creek Baptist Church, where he had served as a Deacon for over fifty years.

Mr. Rock was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the infantry division in the South Pacific.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Ann Rasar Rock, of the home; one son, David Rock and his girlfriend Veronica Hammett, Johnson City; two grandsons, Brad Holly and wife Hannah; and Barry Holly, Elizabethton; two great grandsons, Jordan Holly and Lucas Holly; two sisters, Linda Elliott, Johnson City; and Alma Oler, Jacksonville, FL. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral service for Mr. Rock will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Sunday, December 30, 2012, at the Stoney Creek Baptist Church, with Reverend Norman Markland, Reverend Richard Estep, and Dr. Kenneth Jordan to conduct the service.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton. Music will be under the direction of Gene Church.

The graveside and entombment will be conducted following the service on Sunday in the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park.

Honorary pallbearers will be friends and neighbors, friends of the Postal service and members and Deacons of Stoney Creek Baptist Church.
