image Mrs. Edna S. Taylor, 92, of Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord following an extended illness on Wednesday, February 15, 2012, at her home.

She was the daughter of the late Hubert and Sarah Jarvis Sutphin and was born in Unicoi County, however, she lived in Carter County most of her life. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Billy M. Taylor, on January 26, 1983; two sisters, Alma Cates and Helen Saylor; and four brothers, Eugene, Jesse, Howard and Charlie Sutphin.

Mrs. Taylor was a graduate of Milligan College and was retired from Valley Forge Elementary School in the Carter County School System. She was a member of the Elizabethton Senior Citizens Center and was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels for 21 years.

Mrs. Taylor was a devoted member of Immanuel Baptist Church. She was formerly the president of the W.M.U., taught an adult Bible study group and re-organized the church library.

Survivors include a daughter, Ann Watkins of Florida; two sons, Mike Taylor, Elizabethton, and Philip Taylor of Georgia; six grandchildren, Mark Taylor, Heidi DeOlivera, Haley Carnahan, Heather Prator, Beth Taylor and Julie LoGatto; eight great-grandchildren, Christian Taylor, Sarah Taylor, Samantha DeOlivera, Maxwell DeOlivera, Keegan Carnahan, Caid Carnahan, Quincy Carnahan and Gabriel LoGatto; and a sister, Hazel Hrush of North Carolina. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The Celebration of Life service for Mrs. Taylor will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, February 17, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Tim Tapp officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mary Lou O’Quinn, pianist, and Amy Tapp, soloist. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, prior to the service, or at her home at other times. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at noon Saturday, February 18, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Glenn Cates, Jerry Barnett, Sammy Nave, Mark Taylor, Philip Taylor, Mike Taylor and Michael Watkins. Honorary pallbearers will be Alvin and Sue Woodby, Harry Stout, David Ferguson, Ken Hayes, Ken Calloway, Walter Heaton, Bill Young, Bruce Pearce, R.V. Brown, Wynonna Holland, Terry Cates, Joe Sutphin, Tim Sutphin, Jim Sutphin, Marcus Lynch and the Lunch Bunch Friends. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home at 11:15 a.m. Saturday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family would like to express their gratitude for all the love and care shown to Mrs. Taylor by her special caregivers, Sandra Ward, Lois Hylton, Lora Livingston and Anna Hensley. Appreciation also goes to her hospice nurse, Diann Callahan, for her support and care.
