Ella Jo Medearis, age 85, of Elizabethton, passed away Saturday, July 14, 2012 in the Pine Ridge Health Care Center following an extended illness.

A native of Carter County, she was the last surviving child of the late Charles and Ella Aldridge Colbaugh. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul William Medearis, Sr.; her son, Paul William Medearis, Jr.; three brothers, Bill, Robert and Nat Colbaugh; and three sisters, Edith Feathers, Betty Markland, and Margaret Bowers.

Mrs. Medearis was a former employee of the Elizabethton Wal-Mart and was a member of Borderview Christian Church. She enjoyed working with her flowers, and loved to feed the birds and watch the squirrels play. Jo was respected for her stoicism and loved for her wit.

Mrs. Medearis is survived by a sister-in-law, Lula Colbaugh, Elizabethton; a special nephew, Larry Bowers and wife, Sharon, Elizabethton; a special niece, Lois Williams and her family of Rogersville; a special cousin, Herman Colbaugh, Elizabethton; a special friend and caregiver, Jewel Hawkins and her daughter, Miranda, Elizabethton; and special friends, Alta Cole and Muriel Carter, both of Elizabethton. Several additional nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and great-great nieces and great-great nephews also survive.

The graveside service for Ella Jo Medearis will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 18, 2012 in the Happy Valley Memorial Park with Brent Nidiffer, Minister, officiating. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery at 1:50 P.M. Wednesday.
