Elmer Fred Garland, 95, Elizabethton passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2012 in the Lakebridge Health Care Center, Johnson City. A native of Unicoi County he was a son of the late William & Mary Lee Schultz Garland. He had lived a number of years in Carter County. Mr. Garland served six years in World War II with the United States Army. He saw service in Europe and Central America. Mr. Garland was an employee of and retired from North American Rayon Corporation. He was a long time member of the Valley Forge Christian Church. He was a member of the American Legion Post 49 and the V.F.W. Post 2166. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife: Geneva Guinn Garland, his second wife: Lillian McKinney Garland, three brothers: Howard Garland, Carcie Garland and Dan Garland; five sisters: Pearl Arnold, Maude Garland, Florence Booher, Kate Hamlet and his twin sister: Erma Bruss.

Survivors include many nieces and nephews including his special niece: Elizabeth Ann Shultz and her husband Don of Macy, Indiana and her entire family.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, June 15, 2012 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Bob Polk officiating. Interment will follow in Happy Valley Memorial Park with Mr. David Siebenaler Minister officiating. Honorary Pallbearers will be his church family. Military Honors will be provided by the Carter County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Condolences may be e-mailed to mfc@chartertn.net.
