Erma Lee Dykes, 92, Elizabethton, went to be with her Lord, Tuesday, February 12, 2013, at Hermitage Health Center after a brief illness.
Erma was born to E. France and Maude Murray Dugger, April 20, 1920, in Carter County, Tennessee. She worked for many years at Anderson’s Grocery in Elizabethton and was a bookkeeper for years in small business. She was also an excellent seamstress, specializing in formal and bridal attire, she also loved to quilt.
She was a Charter member of Southside Christian Church, which was built in 1936, and was active in service for many years.
Erma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Oscar Dykes, former sheriff of Carter County; her son, J.B. Dykes; grandson, Glenn Dykes; Brothers: John & Ray Dugger; Sisters: Mamie Seaton, Viola Phillips, June Owens and Nell Thomason.
Survivors include her son: Mack Dykes, of Colonial Heights; Grandsons: Donald Ray Dykes, Mark Dykes, Lance Dykes, Chad Dykes; and several great grandchildren; Her brother: Carmon Dugger and wife, Charlotte, of Elizabethton; Daughter-in-law: Carol Luethke, of Oak Ridge, Mary Anne Dykes, of Florida; brother-in-law: Troy Thomason; and several nieces & nephews.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 12 Noon Thursday, February 14, 2013, in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. Mike Koruschak and Mr. Richard Thomason, Ministers, officiating.
Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum of Hope, Happy Valley Memorial Park. Music will be provided by Mr. Charles Dugger. Active Pallbearers will be: Her Grandsons and Nephews. Honorary Pallbearers will be: James Murray, Ray Hill, Jim Pearson, Troy Thomason, Deacons and Elders of Southside Christian Church.
The family will receive friends from 11 to 12 Noon Thursday in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Gideon International or East Tennessee Christian Home of Elizabethton.
The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the wonderful staff at Hermitage Health Care for their support and many acts of kindness and Dr. Vivian Clark.
Friends may also visit at the residence of a grandson: Donald Ray Dykes, or the residence of Carmon & Charlotte Dugger.
