Mrs. Evelyn Smith Edmunds, 89, a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, of Elizabethton, Tenn., formerly of Decatur, Ga., passed away Sunday, March 24, 2013, at Hermitage Health Care Center. Born in Orlando, Fla., she was the daughter of the late William Stanley Smith and Lillian Josephine Kienast Smith. Mrs. Edmunds was a homemaker and was of the Methodist faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Jack” M. Edmunds, in 2002; a grandson, Kurt Chadwick; and a brother, Stanley Kienast Smith. Survivors include a daughter, Gaelyn Chadwick and husband Don, Elizabethton; three sons, Robert Edmunds and wife Sherry, Lilburn, Ga., William Edmunds, Elizabethton, and Sam Joe Edmunds and wife Charlene, Jacksonville, Fla.; three grandchildren, Kym Stephens and husband Eric, Johnson City, Darrell Edmunds and wife Laura, Jacksonville, Fla., and Michelle Edmunds, Jacksonville, Fla.; and one great-grandson, Zach Stephens, Johnson City. Several special nephews also survive.
Graveside services for Mrs. Edmunds will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 28, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Mr. Elmer Sams officiating. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Everyone will meet at Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services at 10:15 a.m. Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family would like to express a special thanks to the staff of Hermitage Health Care and Caris Hospice for their loving care of Mrs. Edmunds.
