Fairy Velma Cornett Ford, age 88 of Elizabethton passed away on Sunday, May 27, 2012 at Ivy Hall Nursing Home following a bout with Alzheimer’s and Leukemia.

A native of Avery County, North Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Lon and Emma Greer Cornett. Mrs. Ford was a homemaker and a member of Elizabethton Church of Christ. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gurney H. Ford, a son, Carl G. Ford, two brothers, two sisters and a son-in-law, Ed DeVault.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Bob L. and Jeannette Ford, Elizabethton, Richard G. and Ruth Ann Ford, Morristown, TN, Harry E. and Vickie Ford, Elizabethton, Three daughters and a son-in-law, Emma Rose and Mike Snodgrass, Elizabethton, Carolyn DeVault, Elizabethton, Rita Ford, Elizabethton, five Grandchildren, two Great Grandchildren, a brother, Sam Cornett, California. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral service for Mrs. Fairy Velma Cornett Ford will be conducted at 3:00 P.M., Thursday, May 31, 2012 in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home with Mr. Roby Ellis, minister officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 until 3 p.m. Thursday prior to the service. Friends may call at the home of any family member at other times. Music will be under the direction of Elizabethton Church of Christ. Interment will follow in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Herman O’Quinn, Danny O’Quinn, Elmer Rehart, Judy and Victor Deloach and the staff of Ivy Hall Nursing Home, and Dr. Jonathan Bremer.

Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to Sycamore Shoals Hospital Foundation, 1501 West Elk Avenue, Elizabethton, TN 37643. Donations may also be made to the Carter County Rescue Squad, 105 Iodent Way, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
