Faith L. Smith, age 85, of Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, October 27, 2012, at the home of her daughter, Tammy Tipton, following a brief illness. She was a daughter of the late Rev. William Edward and Elizabeth Harmon Phillips and was born in Johnson City. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Wanda Jeanette Boone and one grandson, Cody Smith. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and a loving mother. She attended The Lighthouse for Jesus.
Survivors include six children, Patty Nunley and her husband, David, Johnson City; Shirley Younce and her husband, Bill, Elizabethton; Floyd Smith, Jr. and his wife, Colleen, Johnson City; Vickie Mullins and her husband, Rick, Johnson City; Doug Smith and his wife, Donna, Elizabethton; Tammy Tipton and her husband, Alan, Johnson City; thirteen grandchildren, Lisa Nunley; Jeff Nunley; Mark Younce and his wife, Kelly; Becky White and her husband, Donnie; Jason Younce; Tim Younce and his wife, Jamie; Jonathan Boone and his wife, Denna; Michael Boone; Julie Smith; Brook Sneyd and her husband, Joe; Caleb Smith; Emily Smith; and Jacob Tipton; fourteen great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; three sisters, Frances Wagner, Elizabethton; Nancy Smith and her husband, Bud, Elizabethton; Linda Cupp and her husband, Clay, North Carolina; five brothers, Elbert Phillips, Texas; Roy “Plug” Phillips and his wife, Earline, Jonesborough; Jackie Phillips and his wife, Violet, Elizabethton; Charles “Pink” Phillips and his wife, Phyllis, Elizabethton; Jerry Phillips and his wife, Linda, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. on Monday, October 29, 2012 at The Lighthouse for Jesus with Pastor Bill Younce and Rev. David Nunley officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mr. Jacob Tipton, Mr. Tim Younce and Mr. Mark Younce. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. prior to the service.
The graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Mrs. Smith’s grandsons: Jacob Tipton, Jason Younce, Tim Younce, Mark Younce, Jeff Nunley, Caleb Smith, Jonathan Boone and Michael Boone. Honorary pallbearers will be Mrs. Smith’s sons-in-law: Alan Tipton, David Nunley, Bill Younce, Rick Mullins and Freddie Boone. Everyone will meet at Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services, Elizabethton at 10:15 A.M. on Tuesday to go in procession to the cemetery.
