Miss Gabriella “Gabby” Jenifer Lewis, age 8, 207 Pawnee Street, Johnson City, went home to be in the arms of Jesus Tuesday, July 19, 2011, in Niswonger Children’s Hospital, Johnson City.

She was born in Mazatenango, Guatemala, and came home to Johnson City on February 6, 2004. “Gabby” attended Towne Acres Elementary School and would have been going into the third grade. She was a cheerleader at her school, enjoyed scrapbooking, reading, tumbling, going to the beach and spending time with her friends. She also loved to spend time on the farms at her Nannie and Poppy’s and Meme and Papaw’s.

“Gabby” always had a smile on her face and a kind word in her heart. She was proud of being a “Little Mommy” to her younger brother, Tucker. “Gabby” attended Fellowship Baptist Church in Bluff City, TN.

Survivors include her parents, Shane Thomas and Becky Baker Lewis, of the home; a brother, Tucker Thomas Lewis, of the home; grandparents, Stanley “Poppy” and Brenda “Nannie” Lewis, Johnson City and Paul “Papaw” and Ann “Meme” Baker, Church Hill, TN; aunt and uncle, Carol and David Cheatham, Louisville, KY; special cousins, Mackenzie Cheatham, Louisville, KY, and Brooke Morgan, Houston, TX; three faithful companions, her dogs, Callie, Ha-Ha and Ripken; special school friends, Maddie Clemens, Sara Shively, Sara Whynot, Emi Hubiner, Hollyn Dixon, Lilian Johnson, Kaitlyn Johnson, Riley Gowen, Riane Olson, Lexi Keller, Libby Jones; and special lifelong “sisters” from Guatemala, Nicole Jessee, Micah Jessee and KaAnna Salyer.

Funeral service for Miss Gabriella “Gabby” Jenifer Lewis will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Monday, July 25, 2011, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with Rev. Scott Watson and Rev. Sherrel Nave officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:00-7:00 P.M. on Monday prior to the funeral service.

Graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 26, 2011, in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be her father, Shane Lewis, Barry Jessee, Jeremy Clemens, Steve Barnett, Mike Lewis and Monte Morgan. Honorary pallbearers will be her brother, Tucker Lewis, her grandfathers, Stanley Lewis and Paul Baker, students and faculty of Towne Acres Elementary School; the Towne Acres Cheerleading Squad; her cheerleading coach Vivian Johnson and her church family at Fellowship Baptist Church. Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday to go in procession to the cemetery.

The family would like to express a special thanks to the PICU doctors, nurses and staff at the Niswonger Children’s Hospital at the Johnson City Medical Center and their many special friends who have given their support during these difficult times.
